TRAFFIC AND TRANSIT SURVEY

Suppose we looked at improving transportation as a question of national security?
Suppose we could make any changes we wanted what would they be?

For the benefit of the nation (or at least New York City) respond to the following and send us any additional suggestion you might have.
We will organize and publish the results.

  1. Non-motorized Vehicles: Create an open source on-line planning and education site  that includes re-discussion of how and where bike lanes are  placed.

  2. Motor Vehicles: Stagger the green so that drivers can make a left turn and we eliminate the need to issue traffic violations for them.

  3. Motor Vehicles: Stop decreasing the number of lanes for vehicular traffic and remove all the new pedestrian islands.

  4. Motor Vehicles: Stop creating unnecessary barriers to traffic and unreasonably detouring traffic.

  5. Motor Vehicles: Allow alternate side parking time to end once the street cleaner has come through the block.

  6. Motor Vehicles: End the policy of using drivers to balance the budget.

  7. Motor Vehicles: Decrease the complete DMV fine structure.

  8. Motor Vehicles: Abolish administrative courts for the DMV and allow plea bargaining as they do on Long Island.

  9. Motor Vehicles: Decrease bridge and tunnel tolls.

  10. Motor Vehicles: Enforce laws that allow public parking so the public doesn't have to fight with itself over a spot.

  11. Mass Transit: Make weekend public transportation more user friendly, similar to what it's like during the week.

  12. Mass Transit: Decrease the public transportation fare.

  13. Mass Transit: Repeal the law that makes it illegal for adults to walk from one subway car to the other.

  14. Mass Transit: Repeal the law that makes it illegal to ask for a swipe.

  15. Mass Transit: Institute an education campaign to have the public stop blocking subway car doorways.

  16. Mass Transit: Institute an education campaign to have the public form a line to get on the bus.

  17. Mass Transit: Extend the route of the B35 bus line to the “L” train, not four blocks away from the "L" train.

  18. Mass Transit: Extend the 5 train to New Lots Ave.

  19. Mass Transit: After the evening rush hour allow bus operators to pick up passengers anywhere along the route.

  20. Mass Transit: Create a communication system wherein a bus operator that stops at a subway station at the same time as the train is arriving at the platform can wait an extra minute to pick up the passengers that just disembarked from the subway train .
